Building Project Site: The Wellspring Church Centre - Watford Community Church

WHO is building The Wellspring?

The Wellspring Church is being built by Watford Community Church, 'an international church family in the heart of Watford.'

WCC is a well-established mainstream evangelical church that serves the local community as part of the national 'AoG' group of local churches. We are a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.

WHY is The Wellspring being built?

Though we have used a number of different premises over the years as an office base and a venue for our various community services and groups, we have been meeting as a congregation in rented accommodation, the Watford Grammar School for Girls, for around 18 years. Our relationship with the school remains very strong and we have thoroughly enjoyed our time using the main hall and adjacent facilities for our weekend activities.

The prospect of bringing all our midweek and weekend activities together under one roof in excellent, purpose-built facilities is tantalising because we want to provide better support, help and facilities for local people.

It is indeed a huge investment, but we are committed to investing all we can in the people of Watford for future generations - we want our children and grandchildren to say 'thank you' and not 'if only' when they hear about the opportunity to build The Wellspring Church Centre.

Ultimately, the reason why is because we want to make a positive difference in the lives of people and, as a Christian community, play our part in making Watford an even better place to live

WHERE is the building located?

You will see from the map that the site we are building on is behind the Watford Museum on Lower High Street.

It is a piece of land that formed part of the well-known Benskin Brewery before Watford Council acquired it and built a leisure centre on it called Watford Springs.

A majority of the former Watford Springs site will be redeveloped as a housing development with in excess of 100 housing units of various types. The Wellspring Church Centre will effectively be a 'gateway' building to the housing estate.

WHEN will it be open?

We expect building work to commence in late summer of 2009 and be completed by the end of June, 2010
